Buffer is a system design involving a wearable fob to preserve endangered piping plover populations during critical breeding seasons at beaches. It acts as a literal buffer between endangered species and human interference

Buffer was formed by extensive research including mind, stakeholder, and empathy mapping and an interview with an expert in the field. the project is inline with UN Goal 15: Life on Land:


Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.


TARGET 15.5: PROTECT BIODIVERSITY AND NATURAL HABITATS:

Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species.

Due to the research I had conducted, I was able to select and refine a system from my concepts efficiently. To simplify, The final design was a fob that is worn by people at the beach that will emit soft vibrations when approaching the plover nests, preventing human interference with breeding.
